Description

ALTHORP SP66SE 11/28 Althorp, West Lodges (south) 02/11/54 GV II

Lodge and gatepier with gates. c.1730. Lias ashlar with slate roof. Lodge of 2-unit plan with cross-wing. 2-window range of 2-light casements with transoms and leaded lights; flat arches. Steep pediments to cross wings. Central stone stack. Entrance in side elevation facing gates, has Gibbs surround with C19 studded door. Dormer window above entrance. Rusticated gatepier with ball finials attached to left of lodge by wrought iron hand gate with spikes. Wrought iron carriage gate with spikes attached to left. Wrought iron lamp bracket over handgate. C20 extension to right. Interior not inspected. The lodge, gates and gatepier form a pair with West Lodge (north).
