ALTHORP SP66NE 7/15 Althorp, planting stone at SP 6795 6515

Planting stone. c.1624. Limestone ashlar. Rectangular block with moulded head, on plinth with inscription, "This wood was planted by Sir William Spencer Knight of the Bathe in the year of our Lord 1624" has Spencer coat of arms above. Inscription on the reverse "Up and bee doing and God will prosper". Enclosed by railings with spikes. (C. Markhan, Datestones in Althorp Park, p.8).
