Description

The planting stone at Althorp is a late 18th-century structure made of limestone ashlar. It features a circular shaft that stands on a square base, topped with a ball finial. A metal plate on the column bears the inscription, "Planted by George John Earl Spencer K.G. in the year M DCC XCVIII, Seris Factura Nepotibus Umbram." The stone is surrounded by railings with spikes.
