Althorp, East Lodges (North)

The East Lodges (north) at Althorp, built around 1810, are a lodge and gatepier with gates made of limestone ashlar and topped with slate roofs. The lodge has a one-unit plan and is a single storey high. It features a projecting center with raised pediments and flanking half pediments. The central sash window, which has glazing bars, is topped by a flat arch with a keystone and is flanked by two blind occuli. Above the sashes is a blank window, and there are central ashlar stacks. The entrance facing the gates has Gibbs surrounds with a wrought iron lamp holder above. To the left, there is a cast iron screen, handgate, and carriage gate, all linked by two cast iron gatepiers topped with gilded balls, featuring a close lattice pattern. To the right of the lodge, there is a quadrant wall made of brick with panel decoration, ending with an ashlar pier topped by an urn with a torchere. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear. The lodge, gates, and gatepiers are paired with the east lodge (south).
