Description

This planting stone, located at Althorp, dates from around 1800 and is made of limestone ashlar. It features a triangular shaft with a hollowed east face, standing on a plinth topped with a pineapple finial. A metal plate on the stone bears the inscription: "Planted by George John Earl Spencer K.G. in the year of our Lord M.DCCC to replace a grove of Ash fallen to decay. Uno avulso non deficit alter." The stone is enclosed by railings with spikes.
