ALTHORP SP66SE 11/10 Althorp, Gardeners House 02/11/54 GV II*

House. Mid C18, by Roger Morris. Lias ashlar with slate roof. 2-unit plan. Single storey with attic. North elevation of 3 bays with open central venetian arcade with moulded keystone flanked by single arcades, breaking forward with open arcade on return wall. Cornice with parapet above, centre portion with open balustrade flanked by blind occulus. Pyramid roof with central and lateral ashlar stacks. Dormer with pediment and Diocletian casements. Beneath arcade, cental alcove with marble reclining figure flanked sashes with glazing bars under flat arches. Vaulted ceiling beneath arcade. Rear: plain symmetrical with central 6-panelled door and pediment above flanked by casements with leaded lights. Similar dormer on all sides of roof pyramid. Lean-to extensions probably C20, to left and right. (Buildings of England : Northamptonshire, p.82).
