Description

This is a farmhouse dating from around 1840. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with hipped slate roofs and white brick internal stacks. The building is arranged in a U-plan, with a two-storey, three-window front. A central double-leaf door, partly glazed, is set within a shallow porch with unfluted Doric columns supporting an entablature featuring triglyphs to the frieze. The ground and first floors have twelve-pane sash windows with stone lintels and keyblocks. The farmhouse features a plinth, storey band, and deep overhanging eaves. Two-storey symmetrical wings extend to the rear; the wing on the left previously housed a brewhouse and the wing on the right contained the kitchen.

Inside, the main hall benefits from stone-flagged flooring. There is an inner staircase hall with an open-well staircase featuring stick balusters and a steeply ramped and wreathed handrail, rising to a first-floor landing hall. The old kitchen retains an original, large stone fireplace with a stone lintel and keyblock, along with a 19th-century cast-iron range. A stone cellar is present, complete with a brick vault. The farmhouse is one of a group of model farms constructed for the 4th Duke of Grafton between 1839 and 1844.
