Roman Catholic Church

The Roman Catholic Church, originally a non-conformist chapel, was built in 1846. It features coursed squared limestone and ironstone with a slate roof, designed in a single-cell plan and classical style. The south gable end has a pair of rendered pedimented porches with double-leaf doors. Above these porches are round-arched windows set in round-arched recesses with rendered heads. The gable is made of red brick with moulded stone eaves that extend across its base to form a pediment. The building has ironstone and limestone quoins at the front angles. The sides include three round-arched giant niches that frame segmental-headed windows on the ground floor and round-arched windows above. At the rear gable end, there is a two-storey wing with pairs of round-arched windows on both the ground and first floors. The rear gable wall and the left side of the wing are constructed of red brick, while the rear gable end of the wing is made of coursed limestone and ironstone rubble. All windows have cast-iron frames. Inside, there is a gallery at the entrance end supported by cast-iron columns, which features a clock by Sidney Hall from Towcester on the middle of the panelled wood gallery front. The rear wing contains a vestry on the ground floor and a former school room on the first floor, which has large round-arched hinged double-leaf panels that can be opened to provide a view into the chapel. This building was formerly an Independent Congregational chapel.
