Description

This is a house located on Watling Street East, Towcester. It dates to the mid-18th century, though it has earlier origins and 19th-century alterations. The exterior is constructed of painted, coursed squared limestone, with a plain-tile roof, a brick ridge, and internal stacks. The house follows a three-unit plan and has a three-window front. A four-panel door is situated to the right of the centre, with panelled reveals, a reeded wood surround, a Greek key frieze, and a straight hood on brackets. There are 16-pane sash windows to the right, each with a wooden lintel. A canted bay window is located to the left, featuring a 16-pane sash window to the front and four-pane sashes to the sides, flanked by a blocked window to the left and a blocked door to the right, both with wooden lintels. A carriage arch is positioned at the far left, containing a plank door and a stop-chamfered wooden lintel. The first floor has 19th-century horned sash windows with wooden lintels. Inside, there are boxed beams and old stud partitions. The building was formerly thatched.
