Description

The barn and cartshed range, located to the northwest of Aldwincle Lodge and south of Wadenhoe Great Wood, dates from the mid to late 18th century, with some 19th-century alterations. It is constructed from coursed squared stone, featuring stone quoins and dressings, along with some buff brick used for the later work. The building has coped gables and corrugated roofs.

There are two barns: the one on the left, closer to Aldwincle Lodge, has five bays, while the one on the right likely has nine bays, with its right end converted into a cartshed and loft in the 19th century. The left barn features a central double doorway and a single door at the rear. On the left end, there is a window with a loft door above, flanked by small shuttered windows. The rear of this barn has two 19th-century windows with two boarded openings above them.

Inside, the roof has collars to the principals and trenched purlins. The right barn has a double doorway to the centre left, with a blocked doorway at the rear and a row of five brick archways to the right, above which are two 19th-century windows. There is a lean-to on the right end. The interior features a pegged king-post truss roof with trenched purlins. A tie to the left of the threshing floor is inscribed with what might be 'AC 1776TT', which could indicate a possible date for the barn. This building is included for its group value only.
