Description
This building is a barn located to the west of Audenshaw Lodge, dating from the late 17th century with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of English garden wall bond brick and features a graduated stone slate roof, along with a stone plinth. The barn has opposed cart and winnowing doors, and the east end contains accommodation for animals, possibly for stabling.
There is a tall elliptical-arched wagon entrance, which is now blocked, that has a gauged brick arch and a brick dripmould. A similar arch is found at a smaller doorway in the east, which also has a dripmould that runs continuously over two 2-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows. The gable ends feature oculi, and the brickwork includes raised lozenge and heart decorations.
On the south side, there are two large openings from the 19th century, and each elevation has three tiers of slit vents. The barn has a steeply pitched roof supported by purlin roof on collar and tie-beam roof trusses, with struts to the principals.
