Description
The former transformer pillar at the junction with Audenshaw Road is a cast-iron structure dating from around 1900. It stands on a 20th-century concrete base and is topped by a street lamp. The pillar is circular and features a design that is divided into vertical panels and three horizontal stages. The front displays the Manchester coat of arms, along with a plate indicating it was made by The British Electric Transformer Co. Another plate notes its restoration by Norweb in 1983. The top stage is adorned with enriched cast-iron panels, and the pillar culminates in a conical top above a bead and reel band, supporting a hexagonal lamp on a decorative spindle.
