Description
2 Burystead Place is a mid-18th century house that has been converted into an office and shop. The building is constructed from ironstone ashlar and features its original plain-tile roof. It was originally designed with a two-unit plan and has staircase projections at the rear. The house stands two storeys tall with a cellar and has a five-window range.
The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door, which is now part-glazed, and is topped with a segmental arch head that has a keystone and a flat wooden hood above. To the left of the entrance, there are a pair of sash windows with glazing bars and segmental arch heads, also featuring keystones. To the right of the entrance is a 20th-century shop window. There is a two-light stone mullion cellar window to the right of the entrance as well.
On the first floor, the windows are sash windows with glazing bars and segmental arch heads with keystones. The roof has three dormers, two of which contain sash windows with glazing bars. The building has a moulded stone cornice and brick and stone stacks at either end. The rear of the house features a small projecting 18th-century gable with two sash windows with glazing bars and ashlar gable parapets. There is also a larger 18th-century wing to the right, which has been modified in the 19th century.
Inside, the building has an early 19th-century staircase with a turned balustrade around an open well, and the ground floor rooms have a panelled dado. This house forms one half of a pair of semi-detached houses with No.3 Burystead Place.
