Description

West End House is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early to mid 18th century and features regular coursed ironstone with an ironstone ashlar facade and a plain-tile roof. The building has an L-shape plan and consists of two storeys with an attic. The main front has a five-window range and includes a flight of steps leading to a central double door with six panels, which is flanked by Doric pilasters and topped with a bowed entablature and cornice. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and are set under segmental arch heads. The corners of the building have stucco quoins, and there is a moulded ashlar cornice with ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. The roof features three flat-topped dormers and rendered brick stacks at either end.

At the rear, there is a gable with a two-window range of sashes similar to those at the main front. The rear also has a six-window range, likely from the early 18th century, which is now connected to the main house by a 19th-century porch. This rear section includes a four-light stone mullion window on the first floor at the far left, while the other windows are 19th-century sashes with glazing bars under wooden lintels.

Inside, the room to the left of the entrance has fielded panelling with arched head alcoves and a marble fireplace. The 18th-century staircase features three turned balusters per tread and a panelled dado. There are also some six-panel doors and panelled window reveals throughout the interior.
