Description
Westlands is a house, now a residential home, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone and limestone with a brick facade and a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a three-window range. The central 20th-century door is set within a late 19th-century porch, which is flanked by canted wooden bays featuring glazing bars and simple reeded pilasters. The sash windows on the first and second floors, which decrease in height on the second floor, also have glazing bars and flat stone heads. The centre window on the first floor is set in a shallow arched recess. There are ashlar string courses between the floors and a moulded cornice with a parapet above. The gable ends have ashlar parapets and brick stacks, with the left gable showing evidence of an earlier house. At the rear, there are late 19th-century extensions along with a 20th-century building that is not of special architectural interest. Inside, there are some panelled window reveals and a late 19th-century staircase.
