Description
Two houses, 39 and 40 Oxford Street, were built in the early 19th century. They are part of a terrace and are constructed of stucco and rendered brick with slate roofs. The houses have two storeys with an attic and basement, presenting a four-window frontage. A pair of double, part-glazed doors, each with a trellis porch, are situated to the left and right of the facade. The ground floor features a pair of bay windows with glazing bars and curved sides, topped with simple iron railings. The first-floor sash windows also have glazing bars and are punctuated by flat stucco pilasters. A flat string course runs between the floors, above which is a moulded cornice and a panelled parapet. A central brick stack is located on the roof. Later 19th-century extensions are present to the rear of No. 39. A tall staircase window is visible at the rear.
Inside, both houses retain early 19th-century staircases with stick balustrades. Some windows have panelled reveals.
