Description

West Street Methodist Chapel is a congregational church that is now used as a Methodist church. It has datestones from 1734 and 1791, with the latter likely marking the date of the current building. The chapel is constructed of chequered brick with an ironstone plinth and features a slate roof. It is a single-unit chapel that includes a vestibule and a gallery.

The entrance front has a four-window range at the first floor level and a two-window range at the ground floor, flanked by five-panelled double doors on both sides. The door on the right is complemented by a late 19th-century brick porch, while the left door has a flat arch head with a keystone. The windows are 19th-century casements set under flat arch heads with keystones. There is a diagonal brick cornice and a hipped roof. The datestone from 1791 is positioned between the first-floor windows. The left corner of the building is chamfered and made of ironstone.

To the left of the entrance front, there is a similar three-window range with a datestone from 1734 located between the first-floor windows. An ashlar tablet on the right side bears the inscription "Primitive Methodist Chapel." The rear elevation features two large arch-head windows with 19th-century glazing bars. The building has been used as a Methodist chapel since 1882, and the interior is reported to have been remodelled in 1962.
