Description
Cobbles is a house that has been converted into offices, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick, carstone, and flint, with the facade rendered. The building has two storeys and a dormer attic, featuring an irregular bay system. Originally, there were two doors; the one on the left has been changed to a sash window beneath a fanlight. The panelled door on the right is set within a fluted case and has a six-vaned fanlight below an open pediment. Further to the right is a shop front with a door under a fanlight. The ground floor also has two other sash windows. The first floor features four 19th-century sashes with glazing bars. A modillion eaves cornice runs below the gabled roof, which has four flat-headed dormers with mid-19th-century sashes. There is an internal south gable stack and a central ridge stack. At the rear, two gabled cross wings have tumbling in their gable heads. Inside, a doorway leads to a barrel-vaulted passage that ends at an inner door with a fanlight. The main room has tongue stops to the chamfered bridging beams. There is a closed string staircase with a moulded handrail and square panelled newels, and the roof features butt purlins.
