Description
Crown House is a public house that has been converted into offices. It has origins dating back to the early 16th century but has undergone alterations and additions in the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick, carstone, and rubble, with a rendered facade. The front features a slate roof, while the rear has a pantiled roof. It stands two storeys high, with a central panelled door that is topped by an overlight and a flat hood supported by brackets. To the left of the door is a mid-19th century tripartite sash window, and to the right is a 20th-century tripartite sash window. The first floor has four mid-19th century sash windows. The roof is gabled and has internal gable stacks. At the rear, there are two late 19th century gabled cross wings that include 20th-century details. Inside, two bridging beams from the 16th century remain in the ground floor south room, both featuring double wave mouldings on each chamfer. The original roof structure consisted of tie beams on arched braces, but this has been altered.
