Description
No. 1 Wood Street is a house that also incorporates a shop, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries with later alterations. The main block is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, while the rear wing is made of red brick with burnt headers. The roof of the main block features Welsh slate on the rear slope, while the front is covered with 20th-century interlocking concrete tiles. There are brick end stacks.
The building is two storeys high, with the height of the main block increased by raising the roof pitch. The main block has a three-window range, with a central two-panel door that has a wooden surround and is set within a timber trellis porch. To the left, there is a brick buttress. The windows on the ground floor are three-light iron-framed gudgeon-hung casements with overlights on either side, while the first floor features two-light casements with wooden lintels.
The rear wing has a slightly taller roof than the main block, with a coped gable. It includes a three-light small-paned shop window and a 20th-century door on the ground floor, along with a 20th-century window above. The gable end displays a blue brick pattern of three superimposed diamonds.
