Description

The Duddington War Memorial is a First World War memorial made of stone, located to the north of St Mary's Church, just outside the churchyard gates.

The memorial consists of two plinths with entablatures that rest on a triple-stepped base. On the north face of the lower plinth, there is an inscription that reads ‘IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF/ THOSE WHO FELL IN/ THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918’, followed by the names of the fallen. Additionally, the name of a soldier who fell in the Second World War has been added below this inscription. The north face of the smaller plinth above features raised lettering that states ‘1914 1918’ along with a carved circular wreath in the center, which is topped by a crucifix.
