Description

Two houses located on the south side of High Street, Titchmarsh, date to 1593 and the mid-18th century. Number 14 is a two-unit plan house with an outshut, and number 16 is a two-unit lobby-entry plan house. Number 14 is two storeys high with a regular coursed limestone facade, a plain-tile roof, ashlar gable parapets with kneelers and an ashlar stack at the right end. The front has a one-window range of casement windows with glazing bars protected by wooden lintels. Central lateral brick stacks are also present. Number 16 is a single-storey house with an attic, featuring a thatch roof. It has a two-window range of casement windows with glazing bars under wooden lintels, and a central fire window. Three small eyebrow dormers with casement windows light the attic. A 20th-century door and porch are positioned on the far right. A central ashlar stack is visible. The rear elevation mirrors the front, including a central lobby entrance. Internally, number 16 features an open fireplace with a bressumer and ceiling beams. A datestone within the central lobby entrance is believed to have been reset from a gable.
