Description
23 and 25 Chapel Street is a house that has been divided into two dwellings, dating from the late 17th century. It is built of regularly coursed limestone and features a thatched roof. Originally, it had a three-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic. The front has an irregular arrangement of four windows of different sizes, all casements under wooden lintels. There are two casements in the attic beneath eyebrow dormers. The central entrance is a 19th-century plank door under a wooden lintel, with a similar modified door and a 20th-century porch to the far right. The gable ends have ashlar parapets, and there is a brick and stone lateral stack on the left, along with a central ashlar stack with a brick cap on the ridge. The centre of the window range shows evidence of re-fenestration. The rear elevation is similar, also featuring eyebrow dormers. The gable on the left side adjoins the road. Inside No. 25, there are remains of an open fireplace with a bressumer.
