Description

61 Church Street is a house located in Easton on the Hill, dated 1724 and 1729, and extended in the late 18th century for the Earl of Exeter to create a residence with an attached schoolroom. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, it now includes a cross wing on the right side. The house is single-storey, with part of it having an attic.

The front facade has a two-window range of 19th-century style casements set beneath wooden lintels. There are two gabled eaves dormers, each with similar casements. The plasterwork gables display the inscribed dates. The central entrance features a six-panel door with a diamond-shaped glazed toplight, a wooden lintel, and a flat wooden hood above. A stone stack is positioned at the ridge on the right side. The gabled cross wing projects forward on the right and has a large 19th-century style casement window beneath a 20th-century wooden lintel. The rear of the building includes two eaves dormers and various 19th-century style windows. The interior has not been inspected. The cross wing was originally added as a schoolroom when the house became the residence of the schoolmaster in the late 18th century.
