Description
Church Cottage is a house that likely dates from the mid 18th century, with early and mid 19th-century alterations. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone and features a concrete tile roof. The original layout was probably a two-unit plan, which was later modified to three units. The building has two storeys and a four-window range of sash windows, all with glazing bars and set under wooden lintels. One window on the first floor, located to the left of centre, is blocked. To the right on the ground floor, there is a large casement window, also with glazing bars, which was originally a shop window.
A 20th-century door, positioned to the left of centre, is set under a wooden lintel, while a six-panel door to the right is also under a wooden lintel. The right gable features an ashlar parapet, and there are ashlar stacks at the ridge and ends, which have moulded cornices, along with one brick end stack. A straight joint is visible at the centre, with two bays to the right that likely date from the early 19th century. To the left, there is a mid-19th-century, one-unit, two-storey extension.
Inside, the central room contains a stop-chamfered spine beam with stops that are repeated at the centre. An open fireplace with a bressumer is partly blocked. The building is included for its group value.
