Description

This is an early 18th-century farmhouse, now a house, located on High Street inFINEDON. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar with ironstone dressings and a slate roof. It originally comprised two units, and is two storeys high with an attic, featuring a three-window front. A 20th-century door is centrally placed, set under a flat arch with a keyblock. The windows are mostly 19th and 20th-century casements with wood mullions and transoms, also under flat arch heads with keyblocks. Ironstone quoins and a string course link the ground-floor keyblocks. A moulded stone cornice bears the inscription: "Here ended the fire after spreading 214 yards 1739". Two flat-roofed dormers are present, and the gables have ashlar parapets, kneelers, and stone stacks at each end. The side gables are constructed of ironstone. The interior contains spine beams with run-out stops, and an open fireplace with a bressumer in the room to the right of the entrance. 19th-century extensions are located at the rear of the building.
