Description

Star Hall House is a coffee house, later converted into a house, dating from 1853. It was likely designed by E.F. Law for William Mackworth Dolben. The building is constructed of squared, coursed ironstone with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. Originally planned as two units, it now has a three-window front. The central doorway features a 20th-century fanlight and a four-centred, chamfered stone head. The first floor has three stone-mullion windows, each with a gabled half-dormer. The building has ashlar gable parapets with kneelers, and stone stacks are located at both ends. The initials MD are carved into the central gable, and datestones are present in the flanking gables. A wrought iron hanging sign bracket is attached to the left corner. The rear of the building is similarly constructed with later 19th-century additions. A single-storey porch connects it to Star Hall. The interior has not been inspected. Star Hall House was originally built as a temperance coffee house.
