Description
Berry Green Cottage, now functioning as a house and shop, dates back to 1736, as indicated by the datestone. The building features squared coursed ironstone and a slate roof. Originally designed as a two-unit plan, it stands two storeys tall with an attic. The front has a three-window arrangement of 20th-century casements set in original openings beneath stone lintels with keyblocks. To the right, there is an early 20th-century shop front, while a blocked door is located to the left, where the corner is chamfered at ground level. The roof includes three flat top dormers with 19th-century casements that have glazing bars. The gable ends have ashlar parapets and kneelers, with a brick stack at the ridge. The left gable mirrors the right, featuring a one-window range and the datestone. A 19th-century wing at the rear does not hold special architectural interest. Inside, the room to the left of the shop may still have an open fireplace, and the 18th-century roof structure is preserved above the shop and adjacent room.
