Description

This is a farmhouse, now operating as a hotel, likely incorporating elements from the early 18th century but primarily rebuilt around 1826, as indicated by a datestone. The front facade is of squared coursed ironstone with a limestone rear, all under a slate roof. Originally built with a three-unit plan, the building is three storeys high and has a four-window front. The windows are 3-light casements, with leaded lights, some of which have been replaced, and are all set beneath wooden lintels. A single horizontal sliding sash window is located on the ground floor to the far left. A 20th-century door is centrally positioned on the right side, featuring an arched head and an early 19th-century fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. A blocked door sits to the right of the centre. Brick stacks rise from the ridge and the end of the building. Evidence suggests a core of early 18th-century construction within the left gable. Modern extensions to the rear are not of particular architectural interest. The interior was noted to contain ceiling beams, although it has not been inspected. The building operated as the Gate Inn, a licensed premises, from around the mid-19th century until 1955.
