Description
The John Drage Chapel of Rest, originally a Friends meeting house, is located on Finedon High Street. It dates primarily from the late 18th century and 19th century, with a datestone marked 16.1W.99. The building is constructed of squared coursed ironstone and features a slate roof. It was likely originally a single-unit chapel and is a single-storey structure with a two-window range of 19th-century casements set under shallow arch heads. A 19th-century gabled porch is situated between the windows and has 20th-century doors with glazing above. There are stone stacks at each end of the building. The interior has not been inspected. An attached single-storey outbuilding on the left also has a datestone. To the left of the chapel, a wall is connected by iron gates to a similar wall that encloses the former burial ground. The wall features tile and brick copings, while the gatepiers have ashlar copings.
