Description
No. 1 Lower Street is a house dating from the 17th century that has been altered. It features a timber frame with diagonal braces and whitewashed brick infill. The roof is half-hipped and covered with old tiles, and there is a partly rebuilt central brick chimney. The building is arranged in an L-plan and has one and a half storeys with two bays. The windows are wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars, with three lights on the ground floor and two lights in the gabled eaves-line dormers. There is a blocked window below the eaves to the right of the center. The central lobby entry has a boarded door. The rear wing is mostly constructed of whitewashed brick, and there is a timber-framed and gabled projection at the rear angle that features old paired leaded casements. A small lean-to is attached to the remainder of the rear.
