Description
The Forrester's Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, with alterations made in 1956. It features a timber frame with brick infill, and the front has some framing that is partly planked, with the infill renewed in the 20th century. There is some flint in the plinth, and the second bay is weatherboarded. The house was reroofed in the 20th century with old plain tiles, having previously been thatched. It has two chimneys and is 1½ storeys tall with five bays. The windows are 20th-century two and three-light casements, with wooden glazing bars in the left bays and leaded lights in the remainder. The upper windows are transomed and set in 20th-century gabled semi-dormers. There is a 20th-century glazed door to the right of the center, another door at the right end, and 20th-century French doors at the left end.
Inside, the fourth bay contains a stop-chamfered spine beam and joists with narrow run-out chamfers, along with a heavy truss featuring raking queen posts to the right of center and other trusses with queen struts. Some wind-braces are also present. A marble fireplace, dating from around 1832 and previously located in Park Street, Windsor, has been re-sited in the ground floor left room. The house was originally part of an L-plan block of cottages, with the left wing demolished in the 1950s.
