Description

Clarence Cottage is a house dating back to the 17th century, with substantial rebuilding in the 19th century, and later 19th and 20th century extensions to the rear and right. The front facade was rebuilt using whitewashed brick, although some traces of original timbering remain. The left gable is rendered and whitewashed, and the roof is tiled with an ornamental ridge. A rebuilt brick chimney with a cogged cap stands between the two right bays. The building is two storeys high with three bays. The ground floor has C19 sash windows, while the first floor windows are 4-pane sashes from the late 18th or early 19th century. A C19 four-panelled door is situated between the left bays and sits within a C20 gabled porch. A small C19 extension is present to the right, with a raised and decorated half-timbered facade added in the 20th century, along with a projecting C20 garage. The interior retains original timber framing in cross walls and a section of the rear wall, incorporating stop-chamfered spine beams, stop-chamfered joists in the central room, and some wind braces.
