Description

Well End Farmhouse is a house dating to the late 18th century, with alterations made in the early to mid 19th century. It incorporates a fragment of an earlier structure, likely from the 17th century. The building is composed of two distinct phases of construction; the southern bays are built with narrow brick on the ground floor and 18th-19th century red brick above, while the northern bay is mainly of 19th-century brick with some flint. The roof is of old tile, and there are brick chimneys. The north gable features brick coping with molded kneelers. The house is narrow and double-pile, with two storeys and three bays in the southern portion. The southern bays have a first-floor band course and dentil eaves. The east front has 19th-century tripartite sash windows to the left bay and first-floor centre, a paired wooden casement with a cambered head to the ground floor centre, and a blind window panel above a half-glazed door with flush panels and cambered head. A small 20th-century window is present on the first floor of the right bay. The north gable, at the road end, features brick coping that disguises the two-span roof, two 3-pane boxed sashes to the first floor, a cross window to the ground floor right, and a sash window in an altered doorway on the left. The interior contains a fragment of timber framing between the north bays. The building is included on the list for its group value.
