Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Bockmer End Cottages are a pair of estate cottages built around 1898-1900 by Romaine Walker for Mr. Robert Hudson of Danesfield. The ground floor is constructed from dressed chalk blocks, while the upper storey is roughcast and whitewashed. The cottages feature a plain tile roof with wooden bargeboards on the gables and brick chimneys adorned with 'V' pilasters and offset heads at the ends and center.
These picturesque cottages are 1½ storeys high, with the upper storey jettied to the south and at the gable ends, supported by curved wooden brackets. The building has four bays, with the central bays on the south front slightly projecting and featuring an 'M' gable. These central bays include a pair of 2-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows on the ground floor and 5-light canted wooden oriel windows on the first floor. Flanking the central bays are board doors set within 4-centred arches. The outer bays each contain a pair of 2-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows and a 2-light gabled dormer on the left side. The windows are fitted with leaded glazing, and there are wooden bressumers over the upper windows.
At the rear, which faces the road, the eaves line is lower, and there are small flanking catslide projections, along with mullion windows and board doors in stop-chamfered surrounds. The upper storey features a high central dormer window with four lights and an 'M' gable, flanked by 6-light dormers with raking roofs at a lower level.
