Description
A pair of estate cottages dating to circa 1898-1900, designed by Romaine Walker for Mr. Robert Hudson of Danesfield. The cottages are built of dressed chalk block on the ground floor, with the upper storey in roughcast and whitewashed finish. They have a plain tile roof and wooden bargeboards to the gables. Brick chimneys are present at the gables and centre, with "V" pilasters and off-set heads to the left and centre chimneys. The overall style is picturesque. The design is 1½ storeys, with the upper storey slightly projecting and supported by a wooden bressumer resting on curved wooden brackets. The cottages feature four bays, the central bays having a “M” shaped gable. Ground floor windows are pairs of 2-light stone mullion windows with ovolo moulding in the outer bays, and in the centre. The upper storey incorporates five-light canted oriels in the centre bays and 3-light casement windows in each gable end, all with leaded glazing and wooden bressumers above. Each of the centre bays has a board door set within a 4-centred arch.
