Description
Burrow Farm Cottage is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations and the addition of a cross wing in the early to mid-18th century. Two bays from the earlier phases have timber framing with brick infill visible on the east side; a 20th-century lean-to conceals the framing on the west side, and a later 18th-century flint and brick extension exists on the gable. The cross wing is constructed of flint with narrow brick dressings, an off-set plinth, and a narrow band course. It has plain tiled roofs and brick chimneys to the gable ends. The overall plan is a "T" shape. The house has two storeys. Windows are 20th-century leaded casements, with a 20th-century canted bay featuring barred wooden lights situated at the angle between the wings. A 20th-century door is located in the west gable end of the cross wing. The interior of the older section displays substantial timber framing, with one bay containing heavy tension braces in the walls, and the other with curved wind braces.
