Description
11 and 12 Westfield Cottages are a pair of semi-detached estate cottages built around 1900, likely designed by Romaine Walker for Mr. Robert Hudson of Danesfield. The lower storey is constructed of red brick in English bond, featuring a dentil string that arches over the doors and battered buttresses flanking the front. The upper storey is rendered and colourwashed, topped with a half-hipped plain tile roof and a central brick chimney with an offset cap. The cottages are one storey with an attic and consist of two bays.
On the ground floor, there are 4-light barred wooden casements with leaded top-lights, chamfered and offset brick sills, and stop-chamfered wooden lintels. The attic features 3-light barred wooden casements in gabled dormers, adorned with richly carved and cusped bargeboards. There are board doors on the left and right, framed by moulded brick surrounds and semi-circular brick arches above painted terracotta tympana made from local Medmenham ware. The tympana depict the labours of the months November and December, with No. 11 illustrating ploughing and No. 12 showing digging.
