Description
Kingsdial Cottage is a house that was originally built as a gardener's house in the mid-19th century and later extended in the 20th century. It was constructed for the estate of Charles Robert Scott Murray of Danesfield. The building features coursed and knapped flint with brick dressings and has a plain tile roof. A brick chimney is located on the left side, topped with a row of three square shafts linked at the cap and string.
The cottage is 1½ storeys high and consists of three bays. The right bay is slightly advanced and has a gabled roof with bargeboards. The windows are cast iron diagonal lattice casements set in chamfered brick surrounds, with two-light windows on the ground floor left and first floor. The upper windows in the left bays are located in semi-dormers with half-timbered gables. There is a central 20th-century door situated in a 20th-century lean-to porch. The right bay features a 4-centred chamfered brick arch, which now has leaded glazing but was formerly open, providing a passage to the kitchen garden. Above this arch is a sundial set in a stone surround, along with a knapped flint and stone plaque displaying the initials SM in the gable.
To the right of the cottage, there is a 20th-century matching bay and a double garage, while to the left, there are other 20th-century U-plan extensions that incorporate a small 19th-century outbuilding.
