1/51 The Cottage -

  • II House. C15-early C16, and C17, altered C18. Whitewashed brick, the left bay with first floor band course. Left gable has timber framing; right gable is partly rebuilt in whitewashed flint but has an exposed cruck truss. Thatched roof, half-hipped at right end, with partly rebuilt brick chimney between right bays. Another external brick chimney to left. 1 1/2 storeys, 3 bays. Left bay has C20 leaded casements, the lower an oriel window; centre bay has C20 3-light wooden casements; right bay has older 4-light wooden casement with single horizontal glazing bars to ground floor. Upper windows are set in thatch. Old board doors in wooden architrave frames between bays. Semi-circular oven projection, small leaded dormer windows, and C20 lean-to to rear. Interior: right bay has flanking cruck trusses, both altered, and C17-early C18 floor on stop-chamfered spine beam. Double timber-framed partition between left bays. 2 winder staircases.
