Description

The Cottage is a house dating from the 15th to early 16th century, with some alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of whitewashed brick, featuring a first-floor band course on the left bay. The left gable has timber framing, while the right gable is partly rebuilt in whitewashed flint and showcases an exposed cruck truss. The roof is thatched and half-hipped at the right end, with a partly rebuilt brick chimney located between the right bays and another external brick chimney on the left.

The house has one and a half storeys and consists of three bays. The left bay contains 20th-century leaded casements, with the lower window being an oriel. The centre bay features 20th-century three-light wooden casements, while the right bay has an older four-light wooden casement with single horizontal glazing bars on the ground floor. The upper windows are set in the thatch. There are old board doors framed in wooden architraves between the bays, along with a semi-circular oven projection, small leaded dormer windows, and a 20th-century lean-to at the rear.

Inside, the right bay has flanking cruck trusses, both of which have been altered, and a floor from the 17th to early 18th century supported by a stop-chamfered spine beam. There is a double timber-framed partition between the left bays and two winder staircases.
