Description

Manor Farmhouse is a house dating back to the early 16th century, substantially altered around 1600, with an external rebuilding in the mid-18th century, and a large rear wing added in the late 18th century. The house is built of brick, with an old tile roof and a brick chimney on the right. The front of the house has two storeys and three bays. The ground floor has tripartite sash windows in rebuilt surrounds in the outer bays, and wooden casements above. A three-light barred wooden casement is situated centrally on the first floor. A half-glazed 20th-century door sits behind a brick arch. A parallel wing to the rear is also of brick, with a gauged first floor band course and window heads, a hipped old tile roof, and a square brick chimney. This wing has two storeys and three bays, with two sash windows on the first floor and three paired, barred wooden casements below.

The front range retains some original timber framing; the two left bays initially formed an open hall. Central to this hall is a tie beam with a chamfered projection to the centre of the soffit, which was once part of an arch-braced truss. The roof contains chamfered curved wind-braces. A central fireplace and floor were added around 1600. The left bay features a stop-chamfered spine beam with double moulded stops. The right end of the hall was formerly a cross passage, with two surviving, 4-centred chamfered wooden arches leading to the service bay. Another similar arch sits at the left end of the original hall.
