Description
Rhenolds Close is a house dating from the 15th to early 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 17th century. It features a timber frame with plaster and whitewashed brick infill, including some herringbone patterns. The older section on the left consists of three bays with two cruck trusses, curved windbraces, and a ridge beam on a yoke. The right-hand bay from the 17th century is box-framed and has a tiled rubble stone lean-to at the front. The roof is mostly thatched, with a hip on the left side and a small half-hip on the right. There is a large chimney stack made of thin brick between the right-hand bays and a smaller chimney between the left-hand bays. The older section has one and a half storeys, while the 17th-century bay has two storeys and an attic. The ground floor features irregular leaded casements with diamond panes, and the third bay has an original bowed three-light window. There are two windows on the first floor in the thatch, and a central ledged door. A tiled rubble stone oven projection is located at the angle between the third bay and the lean-to. The rear also has similar casements and two doors, one of which is a lobby entry. Additionally, there are Sun and Royal Exchange fire insurance plaques on a post at the southwest corner.
