Description

The garden wall and porch located south of the stable block at Hartwell House dates from the 18th century and may incorporate earlier walling. The southern section and porch are constructed of brick, with some traces of roughcast rendering and a tiled coping. The porch, which serves as a summerhouse, features a gabled roof and a gothic entrance arch that is accessed by five stone steps. There are side openings that contain remnants of turned balustrades. Inside the porch, there is reused 17th-century panelling, gothic revival ornamentation on the rear of the entrance arch, and a plaster pointed tunnel vaulted ceiling. Additionally, there are remains of a gothic arched opening on the left-hand side. The eastern section of the wall is made of rubble stone, also topped with a tiled coping.
