Description
This obelisk, located south of Hartwell House, dates from the early 18th century and is possibly the work of architect James Gibbs. Originally situated closer to the south front of Hartwell House, it was moved further away, likely in the mid-18th century, during which time it may have been truncated. The obelisk is made of ashlar stone and stands on a square base that features a moulded plinth, a vermiculated panel, and a moulded cornice. The base of the obelisk is also moulded and is topped with a carved stone urn.
