Description

HEDGELEY HEDGELEY NU 01 NE 4/235 Garden wall to north-west of Hedgeley Hall GV II

Garden wall, C18 and 1914. C18 part brick in stretcher bond with squared stone outer face; 1914 part brick in English Garden Wall bond 1 and 5; stone dressings and coping. 1914 wall encloses garden immediately west of house on north and west; each section has a central semicircular embayment, with 2 gadrooned urns set on the coping of the latter. From the south end of the west wall,the earlier wall runs south-westwards, its courses sloped downhill and the coping ramped down twice; this part contains a vertical-panelled door in a chamfered alternating-block surround, and ends just beyond a small stream.
