Description
The shelter sheds, likely built around 1800 with some alterations in the mid-19th century, are located to the north-east of the main farmbuilding group. They are constructed from squared rubble with tooled quoins and dressings, while the rear is made of undressed cobbles. The roof is covered with Welsh slate. The sheds form a range around a trapezoidal yard that is open to the south.
The west range features boarded doors and a timber arcade with six irregular bays to the right. The north range has a similar arcade with five bays, and the east range has a seven-bay arcade, which includes three six-pane fixed windows to the right. All the posts are set on padstones. The south gable end of the east range has a vertical-panelled door in an alternating-block surround, and there is a boarded door at the rear of the north range. The west range is attached to the north range of the main farmbuilding group.
Inside, the arcade posts support the tie-beams of the principal-rafter roof trusses, which in turn hold the lintels or arcade plate. This building is an interesting example of a vernacular building type that is no longer common in the area.
