Description

Three pairs of cottages date from the late 18th or early 19th century, with later 19th-century remodelling including the addition of bay windows and rear wings. The cottages are constructed of squared stone with tooled-and-margined dressings, while the returns and rear wings are of squared rubble. The roofs are purple Scottish slate, except for the rear wings which have Welsh slates. Each cottage is one storey and two bays, with central doorways. The doorways to numbers 5 and 6 have chamfered surrounds, and the doors are mostly vertical-panelled, except for a four-panel door at number 9 and a flush-panelled door at number 10. They have canted bay windows with chamfered plinths, except for numbers 9 and 10 which have rendered bases, and all feature four-pane casement windows. Projecting gables have patterned and pierced bargeboards. Each pair of cottages has a central ridge stack with a chamfered cap, along with lateral stacks on the side walls of the rear wings. Numbers 5 and 6 have coped end gables with moulded kneelers. The cottages are linked by short lengths of wall, which are flat-coped and contain two boarded doors.
