Description
The garden wall located to the west and south-west of the hall dates from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The inner face of the wall is constructed of brick in an irregular largely stretcher bond, while the outer face is made of roughly-coursed rubble with cut dressings. The wall surrounds a rectangular garden, standing 3 metres high and topped with flat slab coping.
At the east end of the north wall, there is a curved section that connects to the north-west corner of the hall. This section features an archway surrounded by alternating blocks, topped with a keystone that is carved with a winged and crowned head, dated 1865. The corner at the north-west is rounded.
The west wall includes a segmental-headed arch that holds a 19th-century wrought-iron gate, which has spearhead bars, dogbars, and a looped half rail. A section of the wall to the north of the arch was formerly heated and contains remains of a furnace at the rear. The coping on the wall ramps down near the south end, where it connects to the west end of the ha-ha wall.
