Description

The house located to the south of Lock 45 on the Grand Union Canal, partly in Tring Parish, Hertfordshire, dates from the mid-19th century and was formerly a toll office. It is constructed of brown brick with white brick voussoir heads above the openings. The building features offset and boarded eaves, a hipped slate roof, and offset brick chimneys. It has a double pile design, stands two storeys tall, and consists of three bays. The northern front is slightly irregular and includes a canted projection for the toll office on the ground floor to the left, which has offset eaves, a lead roof, a blind narrow wall at the front, and sash windows on the sides. The central entrance is a flush-panelled door, with a single-storey bay to the right. The eastern side of the house is more regular and has a central 20th-century door.
