Description
The Lock Keeper's House at Lock 38 on the Grand Union Canal is a house dated 1909. It features colourwashed roughcast walls and a 20th-century tile roof with overhanging eaves. The gables are supported by brackets and have bargeboards with pendant finials. An off-centre chimney has four square shafts set diagonally, each with moulded caps and bases. The house is two storeys high and has two bays. It includes wooden casements with single horizontal glazing bars: there are three lights on the first floor, four lights on the ground floor to the left, and a three-light canted oriel to the right. All windows, except for the oriel, have painted tile keyblocks. To the left, there is a flush-panelled door situated in a gabled timber porch. A lean-to structure is located at the rear. This building is included for its group value.
